A 32-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was shot in the stomach in Taupo overnight.
The incident happened about 1.20am on Spa Road near the intersection of Motutahae Street in Taupo.
Officers visited a house on the street on thursday where neighbours say a party went on until the early hours of the morning.
